A club is only as strong as the commitment of its members, and as the saying goes: many hands make light work! That’s why, even though everyone is busy, volunteers are so important and valued. The more people who help out, the more fun it stays for everyone :)
There’s always something we can use your help and expertise for, whether it’s a one-time task or ongoing, big or small! The Volunteer Coordinator oversees all committees and can answer any questions you have. So don’t hesitate to get in touch if you want to know more about a specific role, how much time it roughly requires, who else is in a committee, and so on! Check out the openings below.
Match Secretary: a flexible and communicative role. If teams want to reschedule matches, this goes through you. In the Nevobo system, you process requests for match rescheduling and also receive requests from opposing teams, which you then communicate to VVA team captains. An ideal and fairly independent role — no meetings required and easy to combine with your own work or other activities.
Communications Committee: looking for members who would like to take on specific communication-related tasks! In coordination with the committee, led by Fenna (board member – communications). Creative minds, web experts, photographers, content creators, writing enthusiasts — everyone is welcome, as there are plenty of communication-related tasks to pick up. Think about updating (and maybe upgrading?) the VVA website, managing Instagram, taking photos, writing news updates, designing flyers, creating newsletters, etc. Together we’ll look at what you enjoy doing, so definitely let us know if you’re interested.
Technical Committee (TC): The TC is the sporting heart of VVA. We make sure that everyone – from recreational players to competitive athletes – is in the right place, has opportunities to develop, and, above all, enjoys being on the court. As a TC member, you are the key link between the teams, coaches, and the club. Each TC member is responsible for approximately 2 to 4 teams and serves as their go-to person. You stay informed about what’s happening within your teams, celebrate their successes, and help find solutions when challenges arise. You work closely with your fellow TC members: together, we oversee talent development and help shape the direction of the club as a whole. The TC is currently well staffed, but we are still looking for one VVA member to act as the TC contact person for Men’s Teams 6 and 7 (H6/7). Preferably, this would not be a male member. Interested? Let Amr, Head of the TC, know!
Recreational Volleyball Coordinator: Will you be Menno’s successor? As Recreational Coordinator, you focus on the recreational side of the club and ensure everything runs smoothly. You help keep recreational players engaged and involved in everything happening within VVA. Want to learn more? Get in touch with Nicole!
Set-Up Club Members: do you enjoy being involved in volleyball on a broader level? And staying in contact with other volleyball clubs across Amsterdam? The Set-Up Club is a partnership between several clubs in Amsterdam and is sponsored by Nevobo. We are looking for two people to participate on behalf of VVA. One person will act as the VVA representative and attend all Set-Up Club meetings. The other person will be the right-hand support and help carry out the tasks that result from these meetings. Together, you will also stay in contact with the VVA chairperson/board. By making this a duo role, volunteering remains enjoyable while helping volleyball in Amsterdam and ensuring VVA gets the most out of its Set-Up Club membership!
Bar Committee: join VVA’s most fun committee: the bar committee! Within the committee, most members have their own specific role. At the moment, we are looking for extra members who would like to focus on:
>> (1) Creating the bar schedules. This mainly requires attention at the start of the season and again towards the beginning of the second half of the season. It’s a fun puzzle, where we always try to divide the shifts as fairly as possible!
>> (2) Communication from the bar committee to the teams and the club. For example, reminding teams when they have bar duty, drawing extra attention to a certain theme (e.g. noise disturbance), or providing feedback to teams after their shift (not just constructive feedback — compliments are always nice to receive too! 🤩)
>> (3) Coordinating with external renters. Did you know that others can also rent our clubhouse? For example, other sports clubs based at the LvS (the badminton club often uses the clubhouse on Sundays), but also for things like children’s parties. The numbers are not huge, but in this role you would handle the coordination.
Activities Committee: can always use extra helping hands! Both organizers and creative minds are welcome. These VVA members organize all the fun parties and activities off the court. The more people in the committee, the better — many hands make light work 💪. Together you divide the tasks and activities to organize. This also means you won’t have to spend time on every single activity, keeping the time commitment manageable.
Tournament Committee: at the moment, we organize the Frits de Wever tournament in the summer. I say “we,” but in reality it’s currently just one person. The goal is to establish a real tournament committee to ensure continuity. Not only for the Frits de Wever three-team tournament, but also to potentially start new traditions, such as an annual (or biannual) friends tournament or — just as an example — a King of the Court tournament. Great for strengthening club spirit (and secretly also good for our revenue 😉). That’s why we are looking for members who want to start this season by organizing at least one tournament! (Separate from the Frits de Wever tournament, which is already being organized.)
Volunteer Committee: would you like to join our Volunteer Committee? 💪 At VVA, everything runs on volunteers. To keep things running smoothly, we are looking for new members to strengthen our Volunteer Committee. We are looking for people who enjoy connecting with others, keeping an overview, and helping to build a strong and engaged club community. No experience is required - enthusiasm and involvement are what matter most! So, are you the VVA member we're looking for? Send a message to Nicole, Chair of the Volunteer Committee. We’d love to hear from you! 😊
Individual Roles and Themes: feel free to contact the Volunteer Coordinator, because aside from the vacancies listed above, there are always separate roles or themes where extra help is needed.
